The urban and rural planning major was established in 1983. It is one of the earliest discipline established in Liaoning Province and the first major passing the professional evaluation. In 2018, it received excellent evaluations at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In 2013, it was granted the right to award doctoral degrees in first-level disciplines. It has been built into a national first-class undergraduate major construction point, a first-class undergraduate education demonstration major in Liaoning Province, a first-class characteristic discipline in Liaoning Province, and a first-class discipline key construction discipline in Liaoning Province. This major mainly cultivates senior engineering and technical personnel who have knowledge of urban and rural planning, urban design, etc., perform in urban and rural planning and management, carry out special planning such as urban road traffic, urban ecology, and garden recreation systems, and participate in urban social and economic development planning, regional planning, urban development, and related policies and regulations.
